On June 21, Linear Technology Corporation introduced the LT3015 , a 1.5A negative low dropout linear regulator with fast transient response, low noise and precise current limiting. With its wide input voltage range of -1.8V to -30V and adjustable output voltage from -1.220V to -29.5V, the device's common emitter NPN power transistor design requires only a single supply and achieves a 310 mV (full Low dropout voltage for typical values ​​at load). The output voltage noise is only 60μVRMS over the 10Hz to 100kHz bandwidth. The LT3015 has an operating current of 1.1mA and <1μA at shutdown. The quiescent current is well controlled in the presence of a voltage drop. The LT3015 is a negative complement to one of Linear Technology 's popular positive LDOs (1.5A LT1963A), making it ideal for negative logic power supplies, low noise meters, industrial power supplies, and post-regulated switching power supplies.

The LT3015's reference amplifier topology provides accurate DC characteristics and provides excellent loop stability with an extremely wide range of output capacitors, including small and low cost ceramic output capacitors. The device is stable with an output capacitor of only 10μF. These tiny external capacitors can be used without having to increase the series resistance (ESR) that is common with many other regulators. The LT3015 has a bidirectional shutdown feature that allows the device to operate at positive or negative logic levels. In addition, due to the high shutdown threshold accuracy of the LT3015, the SHDN pin can be used to set the programmable undervoltage lockout (UVLO) threshold for the regulator input supply. The IC's internal protection circuitry includes reverse output protection, precise current limit with foldback (used to keep the power transistor in its safe operating area), and hysteresis thermal limits.

The LT3015 is available in a flat (0.75mm high) 3mm x 3mm 8-pin DFN package with back thermal pad, 12-pin MSOP package with back thermal pad, through-hole TO-220 package and surface mount DD- Pak package. Class E and Class I operating temperatures range from -40°C to +125°C, and MP grades range from -55°C to +125°C.
