Samsung plans to convert all LCD TVs into LEDs in the first half of 2013

According to reports, Samsung plans to convert all TV factories producing LCD TVs around the world, such as Mexico and Hungary, into LED TV production systems in the first half of the year.

For the Mexican production plant with huge production capacity, Samsung Electronics said it will convert to LED system in the first quarter of this year. The flat-panel TVs produced in 2012 by the Mexican factory with an annual output of 10 million units reached 20% of Samsung Electronics' sales in the global market (51.3 million units).

A related person from Samsung Electronics said, "We plan to take the lead in the large-scale Mexican factory to stop LCD TV production in factories around the world." Last year, Samsung Electronics converted all domestic TV factories in Korea into LED TV production systems.

It is reported that Samsung Electronics has converted the initial model LCD of flat-panel TVs into LEDs for economic reasons. The LCD does not emit light by itself, so the light source must be configured. However, LEDs that can emit light themselves have lower power consumption, better picture quality and longer life, and are also advantageous for thin and light flat panels, so they replace LCDs.
