Elmos of Germany has announced that elmos has launched a series of solutions based on the E522.90/91/92/93 series of chips for LED linear constant current drivers for automotive taillights, including vehicle taillights, interior ambience lights and BLDC motor control for 48V battery systems. Each channel of the E522.9x series has an output current of 14mA to 55mA. When connected in parallel, the maximum output of a single chip is 165mA. This patented power management chip ensures the constant current characteristics of the LED even under harsh heat dissipation conditions. The solution is designed with an external shunt resistor that dissipates additional power dissipation through an external resistor. This scheme distributes power proportionally to external devices and PCBs to avoid local hot spots on the PCB. In this unique solution, part of the power consumption is dissipated by the chip itself, and the other part is dissipated by the external device, which reduces the temperature rise of the chip itself and brings more design margins to the customer. The family also features E522.8x products with higher current and identical characteristics (48-151mA per channel or 450mA in parallel), which have been successfully used in automotive lighting products.
