NI releases the latest PXI and PCI interfaces

National Instruments (NaTIonal Instruments, NI) today released the latest PXI and PCI interfaces, which can extend the NI-XNET platform to support the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) communication bus. The newly introduced NI PXI-8516 and NI PCI-8516 LIN interfaces enable engineers and scientists to develop LIN applications in NI LabVIEW, NI LabWindows/CVI and C/C++, and LabVIEW real-time operating systems. As part of the NI-XNET platform, the new PXI and PCI interfaces are ideal for applications that require real-time high-speed control of LIN frames and signals, such as hardware-in-the-loop simulation, rapid control prototyping, bus monitoring, and automation control. In addition, the new interface supports the import and use of signals from the LDF database, which can simplify the scheduling and scaling of LIN messages on the bus.

NI-XNET is one of the high-performance, easy-to-use products based on PXI and PCI. It is used to communicate with embedded networks including Controller Area Network (CAN), LIN and FlexRay. NI-XNET can be easily integrated with LabVIEW, can use the same API function to program CAN bus, LIN bus and FlexRay bus, and can automatically translate low-level frame data into usable engineering data. The new interface combines the high performance and flexibility of a low-level microcontroller interface with the high speed and power of the Windows or LabVIEW real-time operating system development environment. They can also be easily integrated into desktop real-time computers and real-time PXI systems.

NI releases the latest PXI and PCI interfaces

PXI and PCI interfaces provide high performance and ease of use for demanding applications, and are ideal for environments with high signal counts and low latency. The interface can be driven by the DMA driven by the NI-XNET device to connect the LIN bus to the main memory, thereby reducing the system delay from a few milliseconds to a few microseconds. Using the driver, the onboard processor can transmit LIN frames and signals between the interface and the user program without interrupting the CPU, thereby reducing the time for the main processor to process complex models and applications.
