Wolfson Microelectronics Co., Ltd. has released two new high-definition audio devices WM8861 and WM8862 for personal computers and notebook computers. These two new devices provide up to 5 times better audio quality than existing solutions on the market. When combined with the advanced power management features of Wolfson ’s Clarity Audio Studio PC software, the WM8861 and WM8862 can also significantly extend the battery life of a typical notebook computer by up to 30 minutes.
Both devices have built-in stereo speaker drivers, each channel can provide 2W output to a 4Ω load, and has the highest efficiency that can be achieved on personal computer audio equipment.
The WM8861 and WM8862 require fewer external components to achieve this high level of audio quality, which can reduce the number of external components on average, thereby reducing PCB board space requirements by 45%.
