OSRAM will present two new LED headlight prototypes

OSRAM will present two new LED headlight prototypes at the International Automotive Lighting Symposium (ISAL) from September 26 to 28, 2011: OSLON Black Flat and OSRAM OSTAR Headlamp Pro. Both prototypes are currently available in the first batch and are scheduled to be launched in the third quarter of 2012.

OSLON Black Flat is the newest member of the OSLON Black Series, equipped with ceramic converters and QFN (Quad Flat No Leads) packages. The typical thermal resistance of this product is 5 K/W, which is 20% lower than the thermal resistance of other members of the Black series. Since the thermal expansion coefficient of the special material is consistent with the expansion coefficient of the metal core plate, the black package means high stability. This brand new LED does not need to be equipped with a lens, so the light it emits can be injected into the light guide plate very close. In addition, the pads are the same as those used in the entire product line, so even with roughly the same board design, the light output can be greatly increased. With a traction power of 2.3 W and an operating current of 700 mA, this new product achieves a typical luminous flux of 190 lm.

The OSRAM OSTAR Headlamp Pro meets many of the requirements for adaptability of output and environmental conditions, providing a more uniform light pattern, better thermal stability and higher brightness than previous versions. This 20 x 20 mm high-throughput LED is available in multiple versions from 2 to 5 chips.

With the new OSTAR solution, headlight manufacturers are expected to significantly reduce costs, ie, less investment, but achieve higher output. AFS (Adaptive Frontlighting System) functionality can be implemented with a chip that can be controlled individually or in series, introducing a configuration that allows for a matrix chip solution. The typical luminous flux of a single chip is about 250 lm (operating current is 1 A). According to this, the luminous flux of the 5-chip version is about 1250 lm; the thermal resistance of the 5-chip version is 2.1 K, which is also the thermal resistance of the previous model. 0.5 K lower.
